Sino-French Roundtable on the “Mutations of Rural Areas”
held in Kunming


  From June 8th to 10th, the Sino-French Roundtable on the “Mutations of Rural Areas”,jointly organized by DRC’s Research Department of Rural Economy, International Department and the Foundation of Victor Segalen, was held in Kunming. Mr. Valery Giscard d’Estaing, former French President, Ms. Laure Mellerio-Segalen, Executive President of the Foundation of Victor Segalen, Dr. Sun Xiaoyu, President of CIAD, Mme. Sun Lanlan, Director-General of DRC’s International Cooperation Department, Mr. Xu Xiaoqing, Director-General of DRC’sResearch Department of Rural Economy, participated in the conference.

  During the conference, representatives from both countries had in-depth discussions on the subject of “mutations of rural areas”, and gave introductions to the situation in the agricultural produc, rural development and the livelihood in rural areas, rural medical care, education and other public services, coordinated development of urban and rural areas, and ecological construction, etc. and exchanged their views. Dr. Sun Xiaoyu President of CIAD and Mr. Valery Giscard d’Estaing former French President, made respective conclusions for the roundtable.

  In order to promote the understanding of China’s rural areas, the organizers arranged for the delegates from both countries to conduct a field study to the Yap Villiage of Mi’le County, as well as the vineyard of Yunnan Red Wine Industry Group. The delegates communicated with local minority groups, which led to the enhancing of a better understanding of the local rural life.
